Rivers Casino Guide to Alberta Online Rules

Checked October 12, 2026Filed by the Shift Log desk

Rivers Casino & Entertainment Centre on Hardin Street is land-based; online play in Alberta follows a separate set of rules. This page sets those rules out and carries no paid links.

How the regulated market works

The online gaming market in Alberta is regulated, with two bodies sharing the work. Its manager is the Alberta iGaming Corporation, or AiGC. AGLC is the regulator, with a separate role from AiGC.

For an online operator, operating legally takes two steps. Registration with AGLC comes first. An operating agreement with AiGC has to be signed as well. Both are required for a legal online operation in the province.

Play Alberta, found at PlayAlberta.ca, is the online gaming site owned by the province. Its operator is AGLC, which is also the market regulator. Revenue from the site goes to the Government of Alberta. Other operators in the market work under the registration and agreement described above.

Checking a site

AiGC lists every registered iGaming site in a directory at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites. Any operator can be looked up there before a reader plays. Operators absent from the directory are not regulated. Those with approval also show the AiGC logo. What the logo claims can be confirmed in the directory.

Location is part of the rules. Registered online operators have to ensure that only people physically in Alberta can play. Land-based rules apply to age as well: in Alberta, gambling is legal from 18. In a casino, valid government-issued photo ID must be checked by staff for anyone who seems to be under 25.

This guide and online play

This guide accepts no bets and operates no online casino. Paid links exist on the home page alone, each with an Ad label. All of them go to a single online casino partner. The site receives a commission through them, and the partner may change. No inner page carries paid links, this one included.

Every online site, the partner among them, can be verified by readers through the AiGC directory. AGLC's Self-Exclusion Program lets a person choose casinos and racing entertainment centres in Alberta, regulated online gaming, or both. Enrolment is online only, at selfexclusion.ca, and the available terms are six months and one, two or three years. Each begins at once and cannot be cancelled before it ends.

Questions logged

Can Albertans legally play casino games online?

AiGC manages Alberta's regulated online gaming market, while AGLC acts as its regulator. An operator needs both AGLC registration and a signed operating agreement with AiGC to operate legally.

How do you know a site is regulated?

Search AiGC's directory, found at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites. If an operator does not appear on that list, it is not regulated. Operators with AiGC approval carry its logo.

Does Rivers Casino run an online casino?

The casino's pages name no online casino. Rivers Casino is a land-based casino at 9825 Hardin St., Fort McMurray. PlayAlberta.ca hosts Play Alberta, the provincial online gaming site that AGLC operates.
